Key Learning Areas

Curriculum
All planned learning activities of the school make up the curriculum.  The school curriculum involves studies from the six Key Learning Areas. 

The six Key Learning Areas are:

 ENGLISH (Talking & Listening, Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Handwriting)

MATHEMATICS (Number, Measurement, Space & Geometry, Data, Patterns & Algebra, Working Mathematically)

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

HUMAN SOCIETY & ITS ENVIRONMENT (Social Studies)

CREATIVE ARTS (Music, Visual Arts, Drama & Dance)

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Sport, Health, Child Protection, Drug Education, Safety Education, Social Skills, Values)

The curricula and policies of the school are consistent with the current Department of Education and Training and Board of Studies guidelines.
Teachers and parents are constantly involved in evaluation and modification of policies to ensure their effectiveness.
Taverners Hill Infants P&C funds three specialist teachers who follow school curriculum and provide weekly lessons to students in Music, Spanish and Technology.

English
All students are matched to individual text levels that are appropriate to the each child’s individual reading levels.  These levels are used for placing the children in groupings for Home Reading and Guided Reading groups that are run with parental assistance each week.
The Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar programs are used to support and guide reading, phonic and spelling programs in each class.
The school has a Reading Recovery teacher who supports Year One students on an individual basis in reading and writing. A Learning Assistance teacher works with small groups of students Kindergarten – Year Two with literacy.

Mathematics
Count Me In Too principles are used in the teaching of numeracy
